(u-s:b /TAG Heuer) New CARRERA Timepieces with Steel Bracelets: 40 Years Later-The Carrera Legend Races On To kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations of the CARRERA timepiece, TAG Heuer launched the 1964 CARRERA Limited Edition (1964 pieces - a tribute to the year of its creation by Jack W. Heuer) at the Basel Watch Fair, April 2004. TAG Heuer is now proud to announce the second stage of the celebration with the launch of two new CARRERA models, the CARRERA Automatic Chronograph with Tachymeter and Steel Bracelet and the CARRERA Automatic Watch with Steel Bracelet. Worn by five times Formula One World Champion Juan-Manuel Fangio plus many Formula One drivers in the 1970s, the original CARRERA is a highly coveted authentic timepiece amongst watch collectors and racing enthusiasts. Following the launch of the 1964 Limited Edition, inspired by a design from the 70s, the CARRERA Series is enriched once again with the modernity from its heritage. Today, with the CARRERA new models, TAG Heuer demonstrates that the CARRERA Series does not only belong to the historical heritage of the brand, but still remains at the cutting-edge of contemporary Swiss watchmaking design. These two new CARRERA models, sold exclusively with steel bracelets, are the latest avant-garde creations of the brand.

Jack W. Heuer, the Honorary Chairman of TAG Heuer, is the “active” descendant of a watchmaker family, being genuinely involved in new product development. An inventor who remains at the forefront of design and technology, he participates in the creation of new TAG Heuer models, contributing both his 'watchmaker's eye' and his knowledge in the field of precision stemming from the brand's sporting heritage.

Paying Tribute to a Prestigious Sporting Legacy Since it first appeared in 1964, the CARRERA has been one of the great icons of TAG Heuer design and technological prestige. Named after the gruelling “Carrera Panamericana Mexico” road race of the 1950s, its official ambassador is the racing legend Juan-Manuel Fangio. The CARRERA was also the favourite of some of the biggest names in the 70s Ferrari team, including Clay Regazzoni, Jacky Ickx, Niki Lauda, …. etc. . The two new 2004 CARRERA models are worthy heirs to this great emblem of Swiss watchmaking excellence. Both are exclusively available with five rows link steel bracelet. This marks a new departure for a series traditionally dedicated to leather, making the watches even more elegant, sporty and contemporary. CARRERA Chronograph with Tachymeter and Steel Bracelet To pay homage to its celebrated racing heritage, this new CARRERA Chronograph is designed with a tachymeter on its aluminium fixed bezel. Two sporty versions will be launched in September: black tachymeter with silver ring around the counters on a black dial; anthracite tachymeter with anthracite ring around the counters on a silver dial. The large (41 mm diameter) case has three counters: hour register at 6 o'clock; second register at 9 o'clock; minute register at 12 o'clock. The date window is at three o'clock. The TAG Heuer Calibre 16 movement's oscillating weight is visible through the scratch-resistant sapphire case back. The large case and tachymeter, the “ringed” counters and the steel bracelet with its solid stainless steel folding buckle and safety push buttons give the automatic chronograph a more sporty look which is faithful to the spirit of the original. CARRERA Watch with Steel Bracelet The first automatic watch in the CARRERA Series has vintage TAG Heuer appeal. Launched at the end of the year 2004 this discreet and minimalist design available in two versions - the first with silver sunray dial and the other with black sunray dial, is faithful to the 1964 version. It features easy-to-read Arabic numerals combined with indexes and a polished steel case. Like the new CARRERA Chronograph, the TAG Heuer Calibre 5 movement's oscillating weight is engraved with the famous "Côtes de Genève" decoration and can be viewed through the scratch-resistant sapphire case back.
