The LANGE 1 is probably unprecedented in terms of the international attention it attracted at its debut. Quite simply because it is so refreshingly different. And because it represents the common denominator of tradition, innovation, and benchmark quality in a most inimitable manner. The horological flagship of the venerable Saxon manufactory now reveals its astonishing alter ego: The LANGE 1 “Luminous” in a white-gold case. Has a classic high-end wristwatch ever been more captivating, more daring, and more energetic?

The LANGE 1 “Luminous” illustrates the remarkable expressiveness of this unusual watch design with its balanced combination of off-centre indications: A black solid-silver face; an eccentric dial with prominent luminous Roman numerals and luminous hour markers; more eloquent luminous hands made of white-lacquered rhodiumed gold; an enhanced instrument-style subsidiary seconds dial; the power-reserve indication, also luminous, and – as an eminent accent of the ensemble – the ingenious Lange outsize date which has meanwhile inspired the entire watchmaking industry to devote greater attention to this truly useful display.

The LANGE 1 “Luminous” deserves to be called a beacon from Saxony. It preserves the authenticity of an exceptionally successful timekeeping instrument in every respect. If the face of a watch is construed as the screen onto which we project our fantasies of time, it is fair to say that this interpretation of the LANGE 1 translates the classic facets of timepiece. It could, yet again, establish new standards.

With its milestone calibre L901.0, the LANGE 1 “Luminous” presents a full complement of the horological refinements that breathed new life into the proud “A. Lange & Söhne” brand and paved the way for German luxury watches on their renewed ascent to the global upscale marketplace. It features Lange quality hallmarks like the three-quarter plate made of German silver, screwed gold chatons, twin mainspring barrels for three days’ power reserve, the sophisticated whiplash precision index adjuster on an intricately hand-engraved balance cock, and the incomparable, patented outsize date. The LANGE 1 “Luminous” comes in a white-gold case. To emphasise its personality, it is worn on a calf strap with contrasting beige seams and a substantial Lange prong buckle in solid white gold.
