(u-s:b /Gail McGuffie PR) Last night, the winners of the IJL 2003 Jules Awards were announced by Anna Wales, International Jewellery London Exhibition Manager. She, together with international jewellery designer Leo de Vroomen and Jenni Middleton, editor of Retail Jeweller, walked the entire show yesterday to pick the five designers and manufacturers, who would be victorious.

Best Jewellery Design was collected by Nicola Morris (stand D8) for her amazingly wearable, solid silver neckpiece - a simple, modular design with great potential to be adapted for occasions with drop pendants, when dressing up is required.

Kate Wilkinson, another Design Pavilion exhibitor (stand D49) won Best Jewellery Collection for her strikingly innovative and fluid sculptural Swarovski crystal and feather collection.

Best Product (non jewellery) was received by Giddings Design (stand 955) for the Italian 'Gema' pyramid shaped showcases, that are not only functional and easy to use, but also very secure for jewellery, whilst still making it easy for customers to view the precious contents.

Storm (stand 342) picked up the prize for Best Product Collection for their new range of watches. The judges felt that they are very fashion oriented, have a capacity to pull in customers on the high street, and are affordable, funky and fresh. Storm are constantly innovating watch design.

The final award, for Best Presentation, was won by Hatton Garden based Henig Diamonds (stand 443). The judges were impressed with the quality of stand design and different displays, but felt that Henig Diamonds offered something clever to draw you in to look at their diamonds in more detail. They cleverly used games and other ingenious ideas to draw visitors in to look at their diamonds in more details, such as a cigarette in an ashtray, where the ash has been substituted by black diamonds.

"Excellent design principles and strong commercial styling on IJL's stands have provided the judges with difficult decisions this year. Buyers are treated to a lot of choice at this show and we have tried to select products that we think will be both saleable and excite the consumer," Jenni Middleton commented.

Leo de Vroomen said, "IJL in general looks amazing. I have been involved with this show since the seventies. In my opinion it's now in an international class. I love the colour of the carpets [pink] and the fresh appearance of the show. The Diamond Club is an interesting new development. IJL has put some innovative ideas into the world of exhibiting."
