(u-s:b /) Composed of 1.500 shimmering droplets of platinum, the "Jiang" necklace, created by Hong Kong designer Chu Wai On from Luk Fook Holdings (International) Limited is the latest showcase piece from Platinum Guild International (PGI). Exhibited for the first time in Beijing in August, "Jiang", meaning river, is the marketing organisation’s third commission to take its inspiration from water.

A creation that is one of a kind, "Jiang" was inspired by the visual beauty and rich history of the Yangtze River. The main axis of the piece represents the grand branch of the river while the limbs fan outwards in a graceful pattern resembling free flowing tributaries. Cascading from the front to the back, the necklace dazzles the observer and instils a feeling of glamour and elegance in it’s wearer.

Each of the 1.500 platinum droplets were crafted and polished by hand meaning no two are the same. This intricate and meticulous process of production lends a uniquely precious feeling to the piece. There has always been a natural association between platinum and water – both are seen to embody purity. The “Jiang” necklace perfectly encapsulates the Pure, Rare and Eternal values of Platinum.

The piece, worth $ 250,000, was commissioned by the Platinum Guild International, the global marketing organisation for platinum jewellery, following the success of "Aqua", the necklace created by leading Italian designer Orland Orlandini and "Shibuki", the necklace created by Yuka Kobayashi of the Kuwayama Corporation in Japan.

Once the "Jiang" necklace has been exhibited in China, it will embark on a round-the-world tour, showcasing the appeal of platinum to a global audience. "The Platinum Guild International aims to inspire both consumers and trade and foster creativity with new, one-of-a-kind designs", explained James Courage CEO of Platinum Guild International. Luk Fook Holdings (Inter-national) Limited was one of a number of designers from around the world we approached to create a new masterpiece that would reinforce the association between platinum and water and we felt that their response to the brief was the most creative and the most exciting."
